Stephanie Allum - Complementary Therapy in Uckfield

Welcome to my Website...
My name is Stephanie Allum and I am a fully qualified complementary therapist to both humans and animals. Established for over 7 years, I offer a professional service to animals and humans in and around the Uckfield/Maresfield area.I offer home visits as well as treatment rooms in Uckfield, Maresfield, Mayfield and Rotherfield.
Many people have benefited greatly from the use of my complementary therapies ( which can be used alongside traditional medicine). Aromatherapy has been used for many hundreds of years. Essential oils are extracted from plants and flowers and are 100% pure. They have many therapeutic properties, both on an emotional and physical level. Aromatherapy Massage is relaxing and therapeutic, encouraging blood circulation and lynphatic drainage, thus assisting the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, and eliminating unwanted toxins and impurities which may be responsible for muscle stiffness and joint pain. A blend of essential oils is made for each client after an initial consultation to determin which essential oils would most benefit the client.
Massage is extremely successful for increasing mobility in stiff joints, relaxing tight and painful muscles and allowing joints to move more freely. Clients also sleep very well after a massage, particularly if sleep enhancing essential oils such as lavender and chamomile are used. Massage is also very good for nourishing the skin, increasing elasticity and reducing cellulite. My massages are typically firm but sympathetic (ie not too painful!) but I am sensitive to the fact that everyone requires different levels of pressure, my aim is to make you feel better when you leave than when you arrived!
Hot Stone Massage is a further step into blissful relaxation! Warm, smooth basalt stones are used to massage your stresses and strains away. Muscle tensions respond well to the warmth of the stones, unravelling the knots in a gentle way, using oils as with other types of massage but with the advantage of a thermal effect this is a deeply relaxing experience. This massage usually includes a face massage.
All my massages are tailor made for the client and can incorporate face, scalp and foot/reflexology massage, can be with or without essential oils and can also include a collagen face pack (mini facial).
Reiki is an ancient healing method first used by a monk named Dr Mikao Usui in Japan in the nineteenth century. Today it is practised worldwide. The simple healing method allows you to absorb life force energy which is all around us, vitalizing your life force, balancing the energies in your body and enabling the body to heal itself. The therapist merely acts as a channel for the universal energy through which to flow. This is a very relaxing treatment in which the client remains fully clothed. Animals enjoy this therapy and can benefit in the same way as humans, calming the mind, balancing energies in the body and encouraging self healing.
Hopi Ear Candle Treament or Thermo-Auricular Therapy was traditionally used by the Hopi Tribe of American Indians. This ancient form of treatment is helpful for a number of sinus and ear conditions such as glue ear, excessive wax problems, tinnitus, sinus and hay fever. Many people find this a useful treatment to have bafore flying to reduce the risk of pain due to pressure in the ear canal. This treatment is relaxing and non invasive (client remains clothed) and includes a face, ear and neck massage.
Essential Oil Treatment for Animals. I first became interested in this treatment when I had an animal aromatherapy treatment for one of my horses. It seemed such a lovely gentle way to treat this horse which had been given to me as a rescue case. He had been ill treated and the oils were very relaxing for both of us! This led me to train as an aromatherapist for people which I discovered I enjoyed very much. Eventually I found a course on Essential Oil Therapy for Animals at Horsehay Farm in Oxfordshire where I did a 12 month course and obtained my qualification. Horsehaye Farm run many courses in various animal therapies, visit there web site to learn more about them.
Essential Oil Therapy for Animals involves the use of pure essential oils which the animal is encouraged to inhale or lick in a diluted form. The animal is free to choose if it wants to do this, the basic reasoning behind this is that in the wild animals will choose a plant or herb and self medicate. Often animals do not have access to these things when domestically kept and so this treatment helps us to find what the animal needs with the aid of kineseology. A detailed history is taken of the animal initially and a 2 week programme of offering oils to the animal twice daily is then designed. Preparations for skin complaints in the form of cream, gel or clay base can also be designed for your animal. Essential oils are very effective for sarcoids and similar growths, I am treating my own pony at the moment and the results are fantastic, having been told by the vet that nothing could be done!
Emotional problems such as with horses, nervouseness before or during shows, boxing and travel problems, shying, head shaking can be effectivly treated. Similar results with dogs who are frightened of loud noises, travel sick etc. Allergie problems, skin eruptions, mud fever etc respond well to essential oil preparations.
All animals love Reiki, they find it very calming and relaxing and usually take to it quickly, very nervous animals may respond better on the second or third treatment.Usually it is best to have a home visit as animals are happier in their own environment
Prices for animal treatment would usually range between £30 and £50 depending on duration and what oils etc are used.
Please feel free to ring or email me to ask any questions you may have about any of my treatments.

About me and my Therapy
I have been working as a therapist since 2000, previously I was a riding instructress and groom, I have always been an animal lover, at one time we had 5 dogs and 3 horses, plus the usual hamsters, gold fish etc which young boys find it necessary to keep! Whilst bringing up my two boys I had various jobs including play school helper, tea room assistant nad cook, preparing meals and dinner parties for the Earl of Dorset who was at that time owner of Ashdown Forest. I still live on the edge of Ashdown Forest, an area which I love. Around about the time of the milennium I became anxious for change and to find a career which would be fulfilling and rewarding. I started my development as a Reiki healer and, as is often the case with Reiki, this led me to my new career as an Aromatherapist. First becoming interested in this through one of my horses who I had treated by an animal aromatherapist. This led me to train as a massage therapist as I could not find a course for the animal treatment other than in Wales which was too far to travel. I found, to my surprise, that I enjoyed massage and particularly the rewards of helping people and ridding them of their pain. I went on to qualify as an Aromatherapist and followed up over the years with courses in Hot Stone Massage, Thermo-Auricular Therapy and I am currently doing a course in Reflexology. There is always more to learn and add to make a treatment more enjoyable and beneficial.
After finishing the Aromatherapy course I found an Essential Oil for Animals course at Horsehaye Farm in Oxfordshire where I did a 12 month course, obtaining a diploma at the end of it. This involved staying there once a month for a weekends lecture and coming home to study inbetween. Quite a lot of work, including, as with all good courses, several case studies to work on and write up. Horsehaye Farm as expanded tremendously since I did my training with them. They have fantastic facilities for courses and workshops in many different things such as shiatsu, herbalism as well as essential oil therapy and also for treating horses on site, with a resident vet who uses complementary therapies as well as traditional medicine. There web site is very informative
I now work from comfortable treatment rooms in the Maresfield/Nutley/Uckfield area, and home visits as well as pamper parties can be arranged upon request. My clients range from 8 to 80 years old. All treatments can be individually designed for clients needs.
